The University of West Florida highlighted its successes and challenges Wednesday morning at its annual State of the University Ceremony.

After the presentation of the colors UWF music student Easton Ellenberg performed Edward MacDowell's March Wind to a standing room crowd at the UWF Commons Auditorium. It was the opening act to UWF President Dr. Judy Bense's 2014 state of the University speech.

Repeating its support of President Judy Bense, the University Of West Florida Board Of Trustees Monday passed a resolution to counter a no-confidence vote taken on Friday. WUWF’s Dave Dunwoody was at the emergency session.

The resolution passed with only two dissenting votes after a more than hour-long closed-door session to discuss the opposing vote submitted Friday by the UWF Faculty Senate – which followed the Trustees’ vote of confidence earlier this month.

UWF Students Reflect On Summer

With fall s'mester just around the corner, students at the University of West Florida only have a few weeks left to make the most of what’s left of their summer vacay. I took a walk around the campus and asked the handful of students I could find how they had been spending their summer so far.

David Giampa will be a junior this fall and is studying maths and economic. Outside of class and his job as a tutor in the maths lab on campus. He says he hasn’t been up to much.

UWF Partners With The Crestview Chamber

The City of Crestview has experienced steady growth in recent years, thanks in large part, to the addition of the Air Force’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program and the Army’s 7th Special Forces. The Florida Small Business Development Center at the University of West Florida and Crestview Area Chamber of Commerce are looking to build on that, by officially joining forces to help foster business growth in Okaloosa County’s north end.

University Of West Florida And Pensacola State Make Getting A Degree Easier

The University of West Florida and Pensacola State College have announced an agreement to make getting a bachelor's degree easier on the panhandle.

Dr. Judy Bense, President of the University of West Florida was at Pensacola State College Monday morning to sign a new partnership agreement between to two schools. The program is called PSC -2- UWF...and it makes it much easier for a student to transfer from Pensacola State to the university to complete a bachelor's degree.

UWF Offers Cyber-Security

This fall, the University of West Florida will be begin offering a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a specialization in Cyber Security. They will also be offering a Masters designed for business people who will be cyber security managers, as well as three cyber security certificates. To learn more about the growth of this specialization, WUWF's Bob Barrett spoke to Dr. Sikha Bagui, Director of the Center for Cyber Security and the Chair for the Department of Computer Science at the University of West Florida.

UWF Hosts Domestic Violence Conference

Favor House of Northwest Florida is partnering with other agencies to host a conference for law enforcement about domestic violence.

“Building a Case Against Domestic Violence” is the theme of a two-day conference Monday and Tuesday at the University of West Florida Conference Center.

Sponsored by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, the annual meeting is open to law enforcement officers and other first responders, social workers and victims’ advocates. It’s aimed at promoting prevention, enforcement, and access to resources.

The conference will cover interviewing techniques, stalking technology, investigation for prosecution and the dangers of domestic violence.

University Students Rally For State Construction Funds

Students across the state rallied today for more construction money for the state's universities.

Chris Hill is the Student Body President at the University of West Florida.He was one of the leaders of the rally at the UWF Commons Wednesday afternoon. He said the students "Hard Hat Rally" was to call attention to the need for more construction funds to improve university facilities at UWF, and across the state.

Shinnick Begins Work as UWF Football Coach

Pete Shinnick was introduced Thursday, as the first head football coach at the University of West Florida. The work now begins towards the first game in September of 2016.

By her count, UWF President Judy Bense has waited five years, four months and 32 days for today’s announcement.

“I now can finally answer the question that I have been asked more as president than any other question,” said Bense. “”When are we going to start UWF football?’”
