Holiday Travel Tips: It's Going To Be Busy

If you’re planning to travel for Christmas and New Year’s, it will be you and a record number of your closest friends sharing the road.

AAA is forecasting the highest number of travelers on record; 98.6 million Americans expected to take a trip of 50 miles or more from home. That’s 3.8 million more than last year’s holiday season.

BBB: Make That Holiday Flight Easier

  It’s time to hit the road, or in this case the air, for the holiday season. The Better Business Bureau has some advice aimed at helping make the flight home or to that winter vacation less chaotic.

Rule number one is: if you haven’t already booked your flight, do it now. The earlier the better, and using an online travel site could save you some money.

Driving This Thanksgiving? Here's Your Holiday Driving Guide.

  There’s good news and bad news for Thanksgiving travelers. The good: gas prices are at five year lows. The bad: a lot more people will be driving.

More than 46 million Americans are projected to travel 50 miles or more from home for Thanksgiving. In Florida, 2.3 million people will hit the road, with the vast majority, 2.1 million, or 90%,  going by automobile. Mark Jenkins at AAA South, in Tampa, says that’s a 4.2% increase from last year’s 44 million travelers.

Memorial Day, the so-called “unofficial start of summer,” is eight weeks away and counting. WUWF’s Dave Dunwoody looks at the first of a series of AAA's suggestions on how to save money on that vacation. This installment deals with lodging.

Jessica Brady at AAA South in Tampa says the one rule of thumb the auto club wants everyone to remember is that historically, the closer Memorial Day looms, booking a hotel will become harder and more expensive.
