Bayou Chico Among Nine Projects Receiving Gulf Restoration Funds

  The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation this week announced the release of nearly $100 million  for Gulf Restoration Projects. That includes $34.3 million for nine projects in Florida, as well as four projects totaling $9.6 million in Alabama.

New Escambia County Commissioners Sworn In

  Two Escambia County Commissioners, one new and one incumbent, were sworn into office Tuesday. The ceremony also included a change of leadership on the panel.

Outgoing Chairman Lumon May kicked off the special meeting by thanking everyone who has helped him out, during his year with the gavel.

“That have helped me to have a somewhat successful chairmanship,” said May. “Without you guys, without this great team, I would have failed.”

BP Trial Date Set, RESTORE Amount Uncertain

Four years after the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico resulting from the Deepwater Horizon explosion, it appears another year will pass before BP learns how much it will owe under the Clean Water Act.

On Monday, U.S. Magistrate Sally Shushan issued a seven-page schedule of hearings, conferences and deadlines, leading up to the January 20 trial date set by presiding Federal Judge Carl Barbier. The schedule also calls for the trial to end on February 5.

Touart Dies After Long Illness

Flags at Escambia County facilities are being flown at half-staff in memory of interim County Administrator George Touart, who died this morning after a long battle with cancer.

Touart passed away early this Friday morning at his home, with his family by his side.  He was 65 years old.
