Unless a new sponsor steps forward to take charge of the event, the monthly Gallery Night celebrations in downtown Pensacola will be coming to an end this fall. 

 

  In this week’s Economic Report, Dr. Rick Harper discusses the impact of the Downtown Improvement Board’s announcement that Gallery Night and the Pelican Drop are ending, the re-instating of EDATES and a new medical facility coming to Pace.

 

In a surprise announcement, The DIB announced that the popular downtown Pensacola Gallery Nights will end in September. The DIB said that they would be using their funds on other projects.

It's been a couple of weeks since Pensacon took over much of downtown Pensacola, but the impact of the event on the region is still being evaluated.

There's a good chance you're going to see a lot of people in interesting costumes roaming the streets of Pensacola this weekend as Pensacon takes over the Bay Center and the Crown Plaza Hotel. The multi-genre fan convention is the brain child of chairman Mike Ensley, who sat down with WUWF's Bob Barrett to talk about this first time event.
