The Florida Small Business Development Center at the University of West Florida in Ft. Walton Beach has relocated to a new facility.The new location provides the organization a better connection to the businesses they serve.

The Ft. Walton Beach SBDC is now located just one mile off the UWF Emerald Coast Campus at 815 Beal Parkway NW. Suite A.

Today's Youth "Have A Dream" At FWB MLK Rally

The life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was commemorated across the region this week, with events ranging from prayer services to parades and rallies. At an event in Fort Walton Beach, the focus was on teaching the youth of today about the work and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The spirit of community service and togetherness was alive and well as people of all ages gathered at Ft. Walton Beach High School to honor Dr. King.

For the second time since the program began in 1994, Okaloosa County has a national finalist in the Wendy’s High School Heisman Competition.  Trey LaNasa is a senior at Ft. Walton Beach High School. 

Freedom Bell Rings In Ft. Walton Beach

  For decades the flagpole at Beal Memorial Cemetery has been the gathering spot for services honoring the military community, but that will soon change with the construction of a new Veteran’s Tribute Tower. 

Even though construction of the Veteran’s Tribute Tower hasn’t begun, the Freedom Bell that will be a prominent part of the tower is being used. The bell was rung at the Veteran’s Day observance ceremony last week and for the very first time at its dedication in September.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer In Pensacola

  The American Cancer Society of Pensacola will host its 12th annual Making Strides for Breast Cancer 5k walk this Saturday, October 25th in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Registration begins at 7 am and the event kicks off at 8 am at Cordova Mall.

 A ceremony to cast the Freedom Bell, which will hang on The Veterans Tribute Tower of Northwest Florida, was held today  at Uptown Station in Ft. Walton Beach. WUWF’s Danielle Freeman reports, this event was the first of many scheduled through Thursday, September 11th.

  The Air Force Research Laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base and the Doolittle Institute held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday to officially establish their partnership. The institute's innovative research environment is focused on finding solutions to tough science and technology challenges in the community.

This year’s Relay For Life event kicked off as the Choctaw High School Style Marchers drum line played, and participants clapped and cheered as dozens of cancer survivors and caregivers took to the track for their first laps.

This year’s theme was “Relay Around The World - Crossing Borders to Cross Out Cancer.” With that in mind, each team wore costumes and decorated their tent in their country’s colors. They also provided food, drinks, t-shirts and gifts to sell to raise money.

The ceremony began as veterans from WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam, both Desert Storm Wars and the Global War on Terror stood up one by one and were recognized for their service by the community. Army Veteran Tom Rice who is also the Vice President of Public Relations for the Veterans Tribute Tower served as this year’s Master of Ceremonies.

Bud & Dorie Day Patriots' Trail Coming To FWB

The Bud and Dorie Day Patriots' Trail will wind through a neighborhood behind Uptown Station on Eglin Parkway. The trail has been a community effort from the very start. The city of Ft. Walton Beach donated the land and the greater FWB Chamber of Commerce has taken charge of fundraising the $100,000 needed to build it. Ted Corcoran, the Chamber of Commerce President said the community was looking for a unique way to honor Bud Day who called the area home for over three decades until his death last year, "He has statues; he has airports around the country named after him.

The city of Ft. Walton Beach soon will have a permanent place for residents to show their respect and appreciation for veterans in the community. A Veterans Tribute Tower of Northwest Florida will be constructed at the main entrance of Beal Memorial Cemetery. 

Ft. Walton Gulfarium Expects Baby Dolphins In 2014

The family of dolphins at the Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park in Ft. Walton Beach will be expanding.  This fall, officials at the facility announced that two Atlantic bottlenose dolphins are pregnant. Delilah and Lily are expected to deliver their calves in the spring of 2014.

While living at the Gulfarium on Okaloosa Island, Delilah has had three prior pregnancies, with this being her fourth. Lily, who was born at the facility in April of 2003, will be delivering her very first calf.  Even while pregnant, the dolphins remain an important part of the show.
