Students from ITT Tech looking to continue their education can get a helping hand from George Stone Technical Center in Pensacola.

All 137 ITT campuses across 39 states have been closed, after the U.S. Department of Education barred the for-profit from enrolling new students who depend on federal aid. The sanctions came after ITT's accrediting agency threatened to withdraw accreditation

According to the Department of Education, ITT received an estimated $580 million in federal money last year.

Tech-savvy students from around the region gathered April 1-3 at the University of West Florida’s Pensacola Campus to square off in the inaugural CodeFest software-development competition.

CodeFest, where computer programmers, graphic designers and others interested in the software industry collaborate with professional mentors to bring a product to the demo stage, was organized by Dr. Brian Eddy, an assistant professor at UWF. Participants had 36 hours to come up with an idea for new educational software and develop it into a functioning demo.

This fall, the University of West Florida will be begin offering a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a specialization in Cyber Security. They will also be offering a Masters designed for business people who will be cyber security managers, as well as three cyber security certificates. To learn more about the growth of this specialization, WUWF's Bob Barrett spoke to Dr. Sikha Bagui, Director of the Center for Cyber Security and the Chair for the Department of Computer Science at the University of West Florida.
