Sacred Heart Health System marked a century of service earlier this month. On Sunday, its 100th birthday party was thrown at Bayfront Stadium.

The home of the Pensacola Blue Wahoos was transformed into a party venue, with jump houses, air slides a bungee trampoline and other attractions for the kids, and reduced price food and drink for all.

Among those enjoying the late summer sunshine was Karen Porter, a 37-year associate at Sacred Heart. She talked about seeing the technological evolution in healthcare.

Before last Sunday’s game between the Blue Wahoos and Montgomery Biscuits, the scoreboard at Community Maritime Park took a direct lightning hit during a wild thunderstorm that delayed the start of the game for a couple of hours. The video of the hit was so, well, striking that it made national news on NBC’s Today Show with weatherman Al Roker.

University of West Florida

Two years before its inaugural season, University of West Florida football’s first major scrimmage was held Friday at Pensacola City Hall. The Argonauts are working to create a temporary home downtown.

Meeting in special session, the Community Maritime Park Associates Board went over a proposed agreement for the team to play at Bayfront Stadium beginning in 2016. The two-year deal – plus three, one-year renewals if desired – would pay the city $5,000 per game.

UPDATE: Ben Lively lasted 3 2/3 innings for the Blue Wahoos Monday evening as Huntsville beat Pensacola 6-2. Lively took the loss. He gave up 3 runs, struck out 8 batters, walked 5 and hit one with a pitch. His 8 strike-out performance is a new team record for a Blue Wahoos pitcher's first start. He leads the Cincinnati Reds organization with 103 total strikeouts on the year and is second overall in all of minor league baseball.
