Kim
Carson
Americana
and
Roots
oriented
performing
songwriter
Kim
Carson
grew
up
in
Canyon,
Texas
in
the
high
lonesome
plains
of
the
Panhandle
but
began
playing
music
professionally
only
after
moving
to
New
Orleans.
She
has
been
named
Best
Americana
Artist
by
readers
of
OffBeat
Magazine
a
total
of
eight
times.
After
making
a
name
for
herself
as
the
undisputed
Queen
of
Louisiana
Honky
Tonk,
Carson
moved
back
to
her
home
state
to
form
Buffalo
Speedway,
a
self-described
Renegade
Texas
Honky
Tonk
Band.
The
name
of
the
band
(and
a
song
written
by
Kim) comes
from
a
street
in
Houston
that
itself
was
named
for
a
now
defunct
race
track.
Today,
the
road
runs
from
the
very up-scale
River
Oaks
area
to
the
very
funky
West Bellfort
neighborhood.
Kim's
Honky
Tonk
credentials
are
genuine,
she
grew
up
listening
to
the
likes
of
Buck
Owens,
Merle
Haggard
and
Willie
Nelson.
She's
more
Patsy
Kline
than
Sheryl
Crow
and
feels
more
at
home
playing
at
the
local
dive
than
at a
concert
hall.
She
has
also
brought
Texas
Honky
Tonk
to
thousands
of
eager
fans
in
Europe,
with
summer
performances
at
festivals
and
clubs
throughout
Denmark
and
France.
