Training Jet Crashes at NAS Pensacola

Two people were injured this Monday morning in an air training crash on one of the runways at Sherman Field aboard Pensacola Naval Air Station.   The crash, involving a Navy T-45, occurred around 10:30 during a routine training flight. The two crew members onboard were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Their names are being withheld for privacy reasons and the status of their medical condition was not immediately available.

The T-45C Goshawk involved in the crash is a two-seat training jet assigned to Training Squadron 86.   The Navy’s recovery effort also involves securing the aircraft itself, which crashed on the approach end of one of the runways.

The cause of the accident is now under investigation.  However, the Chief of Naval Air Training Public Affairs Office confirmed that crash occurred on the approach end of one of the runways and appears to have happened after the training flight had commenced.
