Spencer Bohren and the Write Brothers with Paul Sanchez, Alex McMurray, and Jim McCormick

Brenda Ladd

Join us for WUWF's long running live music program, broadcast each month from Historic Pensacola Village. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the show begins promptly at 6:00 p.m. On January 8, host Pat Crawford welcomes the Write Brothers: Spencer Bohren, Paul Sanchez, Alex McMurray, and Jim McCormick.

The (Yeah You) Write Brothers are four of New Orleans' finest and most accomplished performing songwriters. Spencer Bohren, Paul Sanchez, Alex McMurray, and Jim McCormick represent a broad spectrum of American music. They celebrate the Crescent City with genres as diverse as gospel and jazz, zydeco, rock, and the blues.

Spencer Bohren was born into a gospel singing family in the wind-swept prairies of Wyoming in 1950. He began singing and playing music as youngster and at 14 (inspired by the folk music he heard on the radio) Spencer picked up a guitar and within a few weeks started performing in public. He played with rock, country and blues bands throughout the country, eventually settling in New Orleans. Today, Spencer continues his career as a performing songwriter, educator, storyteller, and visual artist.

Paul Sanchez

Most people know Paul Sanchez as one of the founding members of the popular rock band, Cowboy Mouth and from the hit HBO series, Treme. A native of New Orleans, Paul grew up with the city's diverse musical culture. As a songwriter, Paul has composed hit songs for rock royalty including Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish.

He hit the country charts with a song recorded by the Eli Young Band, and the R&B charts when New Orleans Soul Queen Irma Thomas covered one of his hits. Paul still lives in the Treme neighborhood and is an integral part of the New Orleans music scene.

Alex McMurray

It’s hard to believe that once upon a time, Alex McMurray was a Jersey boy. He grew up in Red Bank and landed in New Orleans accidentally, as a student at Tulane. He quickly got down in the trenches of the Big Easy music scene where he remains to this day. Along the way he has washed dishes, taught grade school, and moved away twice, only to return.

He is a founding member of a number of bands including the highly acclaimed Tin Men and the Valparaiso Men's Chorus. Alex has performed as either a solo act or with one or more bands at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival each year for the past two decades.

Jim McCormick

Jim McCormick is a successful and popular songwriter. He was the subject of an in-depth NPR feature and profile in 2013, highlighting his success in a sometimes tough industry. Jim is a mainstay at major festivals including annual appearances at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Austin's famous South by Southwest (SXSW).

Jim holds an MFA in poetry from New Orleans University and is a highly sought after guest lecturer at colleges and universities throughout the world. He currently holds the position of visiting professor at Loyola University.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the show begins promptly at 6:00 p.m. All RadioLive performances take place at the Museum of Commerce, 205 E. Zarragossa Street in Historic Pensacola Village.
