Join us for WUWF's long running live music program, broadcast live each month from Historic Pensacola Village in Downtown Pensacola. On February 6, host Pat Crawford welcomes Danny Schmidt, Carrie Elkin, and Ed Gerhard.

Named to the Chicago Tribune's 50 Most Significant Songwriters in the Last 50 Years, Austin-based performing songwriter Danny Schmidthas been rapidly ascending from underground cult hero to being widely recognized as an artist of generational significance. With lyrical depth drawing comparisons to Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt, and Dave Carter, Danny is considered a preeminent writer, an artist whose earthy poetry manages to somehow conjure magic from the mundane.

Carrie Elkin

With her Red House Records release, Call it my Garden, Carrie Elkin has emerged as one of the defining new voices in the world of Texas singer-songwriters, being celebrated by Texas Music Magazine as one of their artists of the year. The voice, the stories, the images, the grace, it's the complete package. But it's the power of her live performances that really have been creating an incredible buzz around this young artist. Maverick Magazine said it best, after a recent festival performance: "I have never seen a performer so in love with the act of singing. That's the gospel truth. Onstage, Elkin was simply a force of nature."

Ed Gerhard

From Tokyo to Rome and venues across the US, Ed Gerhard has performed for audiences all over the world.  Performing on 6-string, 12-string, slide guitar or Acoustic Hawaiian Lap Slide, Gerhard captivates his audiences with virtuosity, generosity and sly humor.  Known for his gorgeous tone and compositional depth, Gerhard can move a listener with a single note.  Scott Alalrik of the Boston Globe said it best when he wrote "Gerhard does not write instrumentals.  He writes songs only a guitar can sing." Along with players like Ben Harper and David Lindley, Gerhard’s unique approach to the Weissenborn (an acoustic Hawaiian lap slide guitar) is playing a significant role in reinvigorating interest in this somewhat esoteric but beautiful instrument.

All RadioLive performances take place at the Museum of Commerce, 205 E. Zarragossa Street in Pensacola. The doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the show starts promptly at 6:00 p.m. Admission is at least one non-perishable food item for the benefit of Manna Food Pantries of NW Florida.
