"Market At Al Fresco" Will Debut Mid-Week Farmer's Market Downtown

Beginning March 12 those who love to shop the Saturday Palafox Market will have a midweek option to get their local fresh food fix.

Thomas Van Horn of East Hill Honey Company and Mike Carro, one of the co-owners of Al Fresco Dining on Palafox and Main St have teamed up to bring the idea of a midweek farmers to fruition.

Van Horn cites the growing demand for local food as one of the reasons they decided to start a second weekly martket. "There’s been such a huge movement of support and interest in the local food movement in Pensacola over the last couple of years. Some of our customers and at the Palafox Market, it’s been a growing conversation to look for another attractive outlet to connect with customers. Michael Carro brought it up and the timing just worked out."

To start out there will be spaces for at least twelve vendors, four of which have been confirmed as Van Horn's own East Hill Honey Company along with Sunne Joy Bakery, Miller Family Aquaponics, and Cleo's Cupcakes and Creations. As Carro works with the city to place vendors along public sidewalks there could eventually be as many as 35 vendors.

Van Horn says the feel of the market will be smaller and more interactive with farmers in front of their tables in the Al Fresco courtyard ready to interact with their customers. The market is designed to be convenient for those who work downtown and attract customers to the Al Fresco Dining trucks as well as to local farmers.

The trial run for this Wednesday market will be March 12, 2014 through October 15, 2014 and the hours will be 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
