Many County Roads In Escambia May Be Weakened

Jeddah Flood

Wednesday, April 30, 2014 - 9:53am

Escambia County is asking all drivers to use extreme caution before driving over any bridges. There is a serious concern among the County's Roads and Engineering staff that excessive water may have weakened the foundations of some bridges.

Many of us have already see pictures of washed out roadways across Escambia County. A full assessment of road and bridge safety can not be completed until after the flood waters have fully receded.

Nearly a dozen roads are closed at some point as a result of flooding. Mobile Highway at Bayou Marcus is closed as a result of a damaged bridge. The east end of Johnson Avenue is closed due to a lost bridge. Highway 297A is closed at Eleven Mile Creek due to a lost bridge.
Escambia County’s Public Safety, Roads Division and Public Works Department will be working throughout the day to repair roads to allow for safe travel.

Residents in Escambia County that need non-emergency assistance can call the Citizens Information Center at 850-471-6600.
