Family, friends, and members of the community will gather today (Monday) to remember slain Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Myers. Myers was shot and killed after serving a domestic violence injunction in Shalimar last Tuesday, September 22.
A Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. in the basketball arena at Northwest Florida State College. The service is open to the general public. A candlelight vigil was held Sunday night on the campus of North West Florida State College.

Heavy traffic is expected to be an issue before and after the Memorial service, possibly affecting afternoon school bus service.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is advising that there will be heavier than normal traffic getting into the NWFSC campus this Monday morning and is advising everyone to give themselves plenty of time to ensure they are in place at the Raider Arena before the service starts.
Additionally, a motor vehicle procession will take place immediately following the conclusion of the Memorial Service. The procession is scheduled to begin at one p.m. and will take the following route to The Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island:
Turn Left onto College Boulevard
Turn Right onto N. Palm Boulevard 0.7 Miles
Turn Right onto SR-285 (Partin Drive) 0.6 Miles
Turn Right onto SR 20 (John Sims Parkway) 1.4 Miles
Turn Right onto Highway 85 (Government Avenue) 12.1 Miles
Turn Left onto US Highway 98 (Miracle Strip Parkway) 1.3 Miles

A message on the Okaloosa County School District Facebook page is advising parents that the processional for Deputy Bill Myers will be a long one, and school officials are anticipating a disruption to afternoon bus service. If you live in the South or Central part of the county, you should receive an automated call from the District.
