Darryl Purpose, Laura Meyer, and the Sarah Mac Band

darrylpurpose.com

Join us for WUWF's long running live music program, broadcast live each month from Historic Pensacola Village. On May 1, host Pat Crawford welcomes Daryl PurposeLaura Meyer, and the Sarah Mac Band.

Darryl Purpose,  inspired by his work with a traveling band of musical activists, began to tour nationally in 1996 as a solo singer-songwriter. Eight years, six CDs and a thousand-plus shows later, he was headlining venues like the Freight and Salvage, Club Passim, McCabe’s, The Bluebird Cafe, The Kennedy Center, and the Kerrville Folk Festival Main Stage. In 2005, he inexplicably set down his guitar and took a 7-year sabbatical in the Rocky Mountains.

2012 saw Darryl record his first CD of original material in 10 years  “Next Time Around,” produced by Billy Crockett for the Blue Rock Artists label. Live performance is his strength as he connects his audience to his songs with a storyteller’s heart.

Laura Meyer

Laura Meyer is hard to pin down. Glen Starkey of SLO New Times said, "alternating between folk and blues, she’s a skinny white chick with tough-minded songs that don’t seem like they could come from her.” Although she started out playing folk clubs in NYC, Meyer quickly stood apart from the folkie crowd. Less than a year after graduating from NYU, she was performing on the main stage of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival.

Meyer has toured the US & Europe extensively, including performances at Rocky Mountain Folks Festival and esteemed listening rooms like Rockwood Music Hall, The Troubadour, and Eddie’s Attic.

Sarah Mac

Claire, Charlie and Sarah Mac joined together in early 2005, aspiring to create original music that blended the unique styles that each brought to the group. From this emerged the Sarah Mac Band; an engaging combination of blues, jazz, and acoustic rock that has been classified as both Americana and Alternative. The band simply describes the sound as jazzy, bluesy, rock with a healthy dose of soul.

Sarah Mac’s voice at times has the full power and grit of Janis Joplin, the sweet, soothing breathy tone of Feist or Edie Brickell, and the gut wrenching raw tones of an old soul or gospel singer.

All RadioLive performances take place at the Museum of Commerce, 205 E. Zarragossa Street in Pensacola. The doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the show starts promptly at 6:00 p.m. Admission is at least one non-perishable food item for the benefit of Manna Food Pantries of NW Florida.
