There was a familiar sight in the air over El Centro, California on Saturday as the Blue Angels, the Navy's flight demonstration team began the 2014 season before a crowd of over 30,000. After spending most of 2013 on the ground, the Blue Angels made it back in the air this past weekend to start the 2014 show schedule.
One of those planes was piloted by Lieutenant Commander David Tickle who has been with the elite demonstration squad since 2010. He said he and his fellow pilots were very happy to be back in the air.
Lieutenant Commander Tickle said that while being grounded in 2013 was frustrating, it allowed the team to connect with fans the Pensacola area.
The team will be performing this weekend at the LA County Air Show in California before returning to NAS Pensacola next Monday. They will begin their schedule of practices on Wednesday the 26th at 11:30am.
And of course the show people in the Panhandle are looking forward to is the big air show on Pensacola Beach this summer. The Pensacola Beach Air Show is this July 12. To see the Blue Angels full show schedule as well as a schedule of their practices at NAS Pensacola go to www.blueangles.navy.mil.
