"Katya Ivanov joined WUWF as a student intern in May 2012 and then worked as the local All Things Considered host from August 2012 until July 2013. She graduated with a BA in Film/Telecommunications from the University of West Florida in December 2012. She now works as a full-time reporter and announcer fort WUWF.

Katya also serves as staff advisor for Argo Studios, the UWF film production club she founded as a student. In her spare time, she likes to write, work on art projects and make short films."

You may have driven down Chase St. in downtown Pensacola many times, without thought to where the name came from. It was named in honor of William Henry Chase, who oversaw the construction of Fort Pickens and other forts along the Gulf Coast in the 1800s.

James Matthews is a junior studying piano performance at the University of West Florida. The Lakeland, FL native has been selected to perform at Carnegie Hall this spring. Matthews was recently honored as a 2014 American Protégé International Piano & Strings Competition Honorable Mention Winner. He competed against students from countries such as Serbia, Russia, and China.

Kjerstin Grys is a doctoral candidate at the department of sociology at University of California Los Angeles. In 2011, she decided to take a year without consciously looking at mirrors.

Student Entrepreneurs Seek Support From Local Investors

Middle and high school students from our area have been participating in the Pensacola Young Entrepreneurs Academy. The students have been developing their business ideas since October 2013. On March 12, 2014, the twelve student entrepreneurs got a chance to interact with potential investors before the evening’s “Shark Tank”-style event, which took place at the University of West Florida’s Center for Fine and Performing Arts.
