John began his career in radio at the age of 14 when he took over a weekend disc jockey shift at a local AM station. He continued working in commercial radio until he returned to the Pensacola area and began working at WUWF. He has produced Acoustic Interlude for over 20 years and often has nationally known guest artists perform for the show from WUWF's Studio-A. In addition to supervising the stations computer network and internet services, he does on-air work during the station's membership drives.
Hosted by John Macdonell, Acoustic Interlude is WUWF's long running program of progressive folk music featuring recordings from a wide variety of artists as well as original sessions from our Studio-A. Guests who have contributed performance and interview sessions for the program include Rodney Crowell, Mary Gautier, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Dana Cooper, The Waymores (featuring Tom Kimmel and Sally Barris), Alison Moorer, and many others.
