Dry Weather Brings Out Wildfire Warnings

For many, this is the ideal time of year and the ideal weather to go out and burn yard debris. The Florida Forest Service is warning residents planning such burns to use extreme caution.

No rain, dropping humidity and a rising fire danger level are in the forecast for the time being in the three Blackwater counties: Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa.

“It’s going to be another dry week it looks like,” said Joe Zwierzchowski, Blackwater’s Information Officer. “We’ve got some potential for rain the middle of this week, but it’s going to be spotty at best.”

Could NPA Voters Decide '14 Elections?

  No Party Affiliation voters in Florida are helping fuel a national trend by rejecting both the Democratic and Republican parties in now-record numbers.

Figures from the state Division of Elections show Democrats now accounting for 39% of registered voters, with the GOP at 35%. No Party Affiliation – NPA – is at 23.3%. The numbers reflect voters who registered before the October 6 deadline to vote in the general election.

Manna Food Pantries Gets Closer To A New Home

  Manna Food Pantries has taken the next step in finding a new permanent home.

If you stopped by Manna's long time location in Pensacola, you'd see the non-profit operating out of a few construction trailers in front of its warehouse. But that may soon be changing. De De Flounlacker, the Executive director of Manna Food Pantries, says the food bank has closed on a 4.5 acre parcel of land  at the site of the former Escambia County School District textbook depot between N. Hayne Street and N. Tarragona Street in Pensacola.

  The American Cancer Society of Pensacola will host its 12th annual Making Strides for Breast Cancer 5k walk this Saturday, October 25th in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Registration begins at 7 am and the event kicks off at 8 am at Cordova Mall.

Santa Rosa Officials Pitch Need For New Courthouse

This fall, voters in Santa Rosa County are being asked to support a one-cent local option sales tax to pay for a new courthouse and determine where they’d like it to be located. In an effort to gain support, county officials have been making the case that the existing facility in downtown Milton is outdated and needs to be replaced.
