Is a New Administrator On the Way for Escambia County?

After spending a year and a half and $40,000 on the search, the Escambia County Commission could vote to hire a new administrator Thursday evening.

The five finalists are: Albert Penska, John Weaver, Jack Brown, Ted Lakey, and former Pensacola City Administrator Bill Reynolds. Brown appears to be the favorite.

A sixth candidate, current Interim Administrator Larry Newsome, is being pushed by Commissioners Gene Valentino and Wilson Robertson.

"Perfect Storm" Causes West Florida Recycling To File Bankruptcy, Continue Services

West Florida Recycling has filed for bankruptcy protection, as it seeks to rebound from what officials call a “perfect storm” of adversity.

Chief Executive Officer Larry Hoover says the “perfect storm” – including debts totaling $1 million -- led to the Chapter-11 filing.

“The issue with the storm water runoff and the flooding, the major drop in commodity prices over the last year, and they all kind of came together at once,” said Hoover.

Blue Wahoos 2014 Season Opens Thursday Night

It's opening day! The Pensacola Blue Wahoos start their third season in Pensacola Thursday evening at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium with a game against the Tennessee Smokies.

WUWF's Bob Barrett was at the stadium earlier this week for Media Day, and spoke to Blue Wahoo's owner Quint Studer and manager Delino DeShields about the upcoming season.
