Gov. Rick Scott touted Florida's improving economy in his fourth State of the State Address, which also made a case for re-election as much as it laid out his plan for the final year of his first term. Any doubts that the 30 minute speech would also serve as the unofficial kickoff to Gov. Scott’s re-election bid were dispelled right out of the gate. The Republican referred to the economy under predecessor Charlie Crist – without mentioning the former Republican who is now running for governor as a Democrat. “Florida was in a hole. Unemployment was around 11%,” said Scott.
A new non-profit organization is rallying support for legislation allowing the use of a specific type of medical marijuana. Caring 4 Florida was founded in January this year by Peyton and Holley Moseley. The not-for-profit organization is intended educate and advocate for the legalization of non-euphoric strains of cannabis for use by epilepsy patients. The Moseley’s eleven year old daughter, RayAnn, has intractable epilepsy and cerebral palsy.

Again this year, Senate President Don Gaetz and House Speaker Will Weatherford have joined together on a priority agenda. “These are issues that rise above politics and we think they can get done. They must get done. We will get them done,” says Gaetz, a Republican from Niceville.
Ground may be breaking soon on some long awaited commercial development at the University of West Florida.
Dr. Jim Barnett, the Interim CEO of the Business Enterprise Inc, or BEI, at the University of West Florida says the BEI Board of Difrectors approved the project at its February 17 meeting. It goes to the full UWF Board of Trustees for final approval on March 26. Barnett says that if approval is given, ground could be broken two days later. This would be the first phase of development at the University's Highway 90 and Campus Drive entrance.
