Stormwater Grants Heading To NWFL

$10 million in State of Florida grant money is coming to the Panhandle, to help pay for upgrades in local storm water infrastructure. That word comes from state Senate President Don Gaetz.

The money is part of a $90 million settlement between the Department of Justice and MOEX Offshore – a co-owner of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig that exploded four years ago, causing the nation’s worst oil spill.

Harper: 2.9% Drop In GDP Shows Weak Start To 2014 GDP Revision

In this week’s Economic Report, Dr. Rick Harper discusses the latest first quarter revision of the gross domestic product (GDP).  According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, GDP shows a 2.9% drop in the annual rate in January through March, the weakest quarter for the U.S. economy since the Great Recession.

Baptist LifeFlight Sold To Colorado Company

In the late 1970's, Baptist Hospital in Pensacola established Baptist Life Flight. At the time it was the only air-ambulance service operating in the state of Florida and only the third established in the United States. Now, after more than 35 years, Baptist Life Flight has been sold to a Colorado based firm called Air Methods.

Deadline Looms For Flood Assistance

Time is running out for residents in northwest Florida affected by storms and flooding to apply for disaster assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency: tshe deadline to register is Monday, July 7.

Survivors in Escambia, Santa Rosa, Jackson, Okaloosa and Walton counties are eligible to apply for disaster assistance that may include money to help pay for temporary housing, essential home repairs or other serious disaster-related expenses.

Carl Wernicke: I'm Really Nice

All of us have times when we are less than sociable. While I know that I am in reality a cuddly, warm human being, this doesn’t always come across to others. My mother used to call me anti-social, and my wife has deemed me a curmudgeon. But who cares what they think, right? I know the real me, and, well, modesty keeps me from being too boastful.

Still, I admit that sometimes I just can’t deal with all the sweetness and light.
