John Paul, John Become Newest Saints

Upwards of three million people will gather in Rome this weekend, for Sunday’s canonization of Popes John Paul II and John XXIII. Pope Francis will declare sainthood on two of his most influential predecessors.

Francis made the announcement last October during a meeting with cardinals at the Vatican. Each pope gained high international profiles – John for the modernizing the Church in the 1960s, and John Paul for encouraging the fall of Communism in his native Poland and the rest of Eastern Europe.

Hayward Withdraws Involvement with City TV Show

When it begins airing this summer, Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward’s upcoming television show will be missing – Mayor Ashton Hayward.

The Mayor announced Wednesday that the program on BLAB-TV, would be produced. But he’s backing away from the project amid blowback from the community.

New Pensacola Bay Bridge Options

Residents and local officials gathered at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in downtown Pensacola Tuesday, for a look at the proposed new bridge over Pensacola Bay.

Representatives from the Jacksonville-based consulting firm Reynolds, Smith and Hills unveiled the most current plan using the so-called west-central corridor to the Project Advisory Group -- 14 members representing local government, business and residents.

Ian Satter with DOT says the new bridge would feature some major changes – both aesthetic and practical -- from what’s now on the 54-year-old span.

BP Trial Date Set, RESTORE Amount Uncertain

Four years after the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico resulting from the Deepwater Horizon explosion, it appears another year will pass before BP learns how much it will owe under the Clean Water Act.

On Monday, U.S. Magistrate Sally Shushan issued a seven-page schedule of hearings, conferences and deadlines, leading up to the January 20 trial date set by presiding Federal Judge Carl Barbier. The schedule also calls for the trial to end on February 5.
