LISTEN: At The Finish Line In Boston With Brian Spencer

Pensacola City Councilman Brian Spencer ran his fifth Boston Marathon on Monday. After the race he spoke with WUWF's Bob Barrett on his cell phone from the finish line. They started with the atmosphere at the start of the race.

Brian Spencer says, "Absolutely celebratory and at the same time solemn... more than 30,000 people observed a moment of silence."

Homeland Security, Hurricane Prep on Escambia EOC Director's Plate

Escambia County Emergency Director John Dosh is a busy man these days, with the 2014 hurricane season just around the corner.

While an assistant was attending last week’s national hurricane conference in Orlando, Dosh was in St. Augustine for a meeting on funding local homeland security programs in fiscal year 2015. He says it’s not known yet just how much money will come to Florida and to Escambia County, other than to say that the latter is expected to be in six figures.

Red Snapper Season Announced

Fifty-two is the magic number for recreational fishing for red snapper in Florida waters for 2014. WUWF’s Dave Dunwoody reports that’s how many days the species can be sought.

Meeting on Wednesday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission set the red snapper period from May 24 -- the Saturday before Memorial Day – through July 14. Amanda Nally at FWC says the dates are by design to include two of the three summer holidays.

Return To Boston: Sandra Averhart Speaks With City Councilman & Runner Brian Spencer

It was one year ago that two pressure cooker bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three people and injuring more than 260 others. This week, the city of Boston is marking the one-year anniversary of the April 15, 2013 bombing and preparing for this year’s race.
