"How
Can
I
Keep
From
Singing?"
a
tribute
to
the
great
American
folk
singer
and
activist,
Pete
Seeger.
Parts
Two
and
Three
of
the
3-part
series
will
be
broadcast
during
the
final
hour
of
Acoustic
Interlude
at
3:00
p.m.
on
Sunday,
July
20th
and
Sunday
July
27th.
Part
Two,
"Folk
Songs
and
Ballads,"
focuses
on
the
great
folk
musical
revival
in
the
United
States
during
the
1950's
and
1960's
and
the
critical
role
played
by
Seeger
and
his
friends.
Part
Three,
"Topical
and
Protest
Songs,"
is
the
most
controversial
segment
of
the
series.
Labeled
as a
Communist,
Seeger
lost
his
recording
contracts
and
was
banned
from
radio
and
TV.
He
then
took
his
music
directly
to
the
people,
playing
at
protest
rallies
against
McCarthyism
and
the
Anti-Communist
hysteria.
He
also
became
heavily
involved
in
the
Civil
Rights
Movement
and
later
became
a
key
voice
against
the
Vietnam
War.
