Bob Gold

Bob Gold is a pianist, composer-improviser whose love affair with the sonorities of his instrument is immediately apparent. Appealing on first hearing, the subtleties of his less is more music are revealed with repeated listening.

In order to make his intimate recordings in his home in Philadelphia he sends his young family off to the seashore, brings in a piano technician sometimes twice during a weekend

session to tune his concert Steinway, and sets to work. His inspiration comes from the likes of Satie, Mompou, Bill Evans, but the end result is very much his own. Steve Tortorici spoke with him recently about his first CD called “Departures.”
